The SMARTER Approach to Workplace
Learning
Smarter for the Organisation; Smarter for the
Worker
Training is
often the hammer used to crack the proverbial nut when it comes
to improving performance in the workplace, particularly when the
training involves the creation and delivery of all-singing,
all-dancing, content-rich e-learning courses. By focusing
on more social and collaborative approaches you can reduce (and
often eliminate) the need for costly training.
We help organisations understand
how to do this in their organisation using the SMARTER Approach to Workplace
Learning, which is grounded in the principles shown below.
|
Principles |
| S -
Social and collaborative approaches underpin the SMARTER approach to
workplace learning. This does not mean simply throwing social
media tools at any problem to create a social solution, but more
importantly means ... |
| M
- shifting your thinking towards a new mindset
that is not focused on training as the solution to every learning
problem includes ... |
| A -
encouraging autonomous learners/workers - either to solve their
own learning/business problems in their own way - or
help them become more autonomous in the solutions that
you help them build. This means,
and will lead to .. |
|
R
- a reduction in the amount of formal
training provided |
T
- All
of the above will be supported by technology
E - but
by using a technology-enabled approach (e.g. a collaboration
platform) rather than a technology-managed approach (e.g. LMS). |
| R
- This will lead to a more responsive and agile
approach to learning in the organisation, and one where
"learning=working and working=learning". |
