Emailing -  gMail/Google Mail

Email has become the standard way of communicating with others online, whether it be friends, family, colleagues, teachers or fellow students.

Many people use a desktop email client like Outlook, but web-mail has now become very popular. In fact, gMail is the highest ranked email client in our Top 100 Tools for Learning 2008 list. You can read the comments from those who selected it here.

What's different about gMail.  This is what they say

Gmail is a free, search-based webmail service that combines the best features of traditional email with Google's search technology. Gmail makes locating messages so easy that you'll never need to shuffle mail in your inbox again. Besides offering an entirely new way of reading and tracking messages, Gmail includes over 5 GB of storage space -- and we'll keep giving you more space as we're able. Best of all, it's free.

With gMail you can:

  • send email to your contacts
  • organise and sort mail
  • create labels and apply them to group related messages together
  • set up filters
  • search your emails
  • chat with your Gmail contacts

To find out how to get started, use the Gmail Getting Started guide.

Consider setting up a gMail account.  Go to mail.google.com
