Emilio Quintana

Emilio Quintana is a Teacher of Spanish as a Second Language and DELE (Diplomas in Spanish as a Foreign Language) Responsable at Instituto Cervantes (the official Spanish Government Cultural Centre) in Utrecht, The Netherlands. He has a broad interest in how Web 2.0 can improve the way we learn a Foreign Language and blogs at Grupo Nodos_Ele.

1. Blogger | Es la base de todo lo demás, el punto de encuentro. En este momento supera a Wordpress claramente, ya que la posibilidad de editar el CSS permite encontrar soluciones a casi todo. Echo de menos más plantillas y la posibilidad de crear páginas sin recurrir a trucos cutres.  [It is the base of all the others, the point of contact. At this moment it clearly surpasses Wordpress, since the possibility of publishing CSS allows it to find solutions to almost everything. I miss more themes and the possibility of creating pages without resorting to miserly tricks]

2. Twitter | La revelación de 2007. Una tontería sin la que me habría perdido un montón de cosas. Tan útil como adictiva. Con todo, no creo que a Twitter le quede mucho recorrido, ya que hay proyectos en marcha -desde Google o no - que le pueden dar el golpe de gracia en cualquier momento. [The revelation of 2007. A triviality without which there a pile of things would be lost. As useful as addictive. Yet, I do not believe that to Twitter it has left much route, since there are projects in march - from Google Social to youare.com that can give the grace blow at any time]

3. Pageflakes | Es mi página de inicio, me sirve de lector de feeds (mucho mejor que el de Netvibes) y para muchas otras cosas. La Teacher Edition es espectacular, y gracias a la posibilidad de crear Pagecasts (grupos cerrados de trabajo) se ha convertido en un espacio flexible y de gran utilidad  [It is mystart page, I use it as a feedreader (far better than Netvibes) and for many other things. The Teacher Edition is spectacular, and thanks to the possibility of creating Pagecasts (closed groups of work) have become a flexible space and very usefull]

4. Skype | La herramienta más adecuada para reuniones de trabajo informales. [The most suitable tool for informal meetings of work]

5. YouTube | Una ventana abierta al mundo, y una herramienta cada vez más potente. La suelo utilizar para crear canales de TV temáticos que complementan algunos cursos  [A window to the world, and a more and more powerful tool. I normally use it to create thematic TV channels that complement some of my courses]]

6. Tumblr | 2008 será el año del nanoblogging. Bien integrado en un contexto de PLE tiene personalidad propia y sirve de cuaderno de notas, a medio camino entre el blog, el flickr, el youtube o el twitter... Todo y nada, caos y orden. Me fascina. [2008 will be the year of nanoblogging. Well integrated in a PLE context it has its own personality and it serves as notebook, halfway between  a blog, flickr, youtube or twitter... Everything and nothing, chaos and order. It fascinates to me]

7. Flickr | La perfección en imágenes [Perfection in images]

8. Gmail | Aún tiene que mejorar mucho, pero ¿hay una alternativa mejor?. [It still needs to improve, but is there a better alternative?]

9. Opera | El navegador más rápido, más ligero y más usable. Muy superior a Firefox, un dinosaurio con un montón de aplicaciones inútiles, y que no es más que una copia de Opera (llevo años usando pestañas antes de que Firefox las incorporase). Unete a la tercera vía. [The fastest, lighter and most usable browser. Much superior to  Firefox, a dinosaur with a pile of useless applications, and that is not more than a copy of Opera (I used tabs for years before Firefox incorporated them). Join to the third way]

10. VoiceThread | Uno de los pequeños descubrimientos del año. Me ha permitido trabajar en proyectos muy motivadores. Adolece de falta de usabilidad y es poco intuitiva, pero mola. Marca el camino hacia un aprendizaje más colaborativo.  [One of the small discoveries of the year (It has allowed me to work in very motivated projects. It suffers from a lack of usability and is little intuitive, but "mola" (it's cool). It marks the way towards a more collaborative way of learning
