TOP 10 TOOLS 2007
Jorge Gonçalves

Jorge is a chemistry Professor at the University of Porto, Portugal, and started using e-learning with his students two years ago. In April 2006 he decided to start Learning Online Info to serve as a repository of interesting links about e-learning and educational technologies.

Jorge's Top 10 Tools as at 31 July 2007

  1. Moodle - Moodle and WebCT are the two platforms currently available in my University. I’ve tried both and decided to use Moodle for its simplicity and because it’s open source software

  2. Firefox and ScribeFire - Firefox is my preferred browser. I use it with a lot of add-ons. The one I use most is ScribeFire, one of the best blog editors available

  3. Bloglines - I open Bloglines every morning to read my RSS feeds. I’ve tried Google Reader but I returned to Bloglines. I love the “Keep New” and “Clip This” features.

  4. Blogger and WordPress - I started blogging with Blogger but now I am moving my blogs to WordPress

  5. Google Tools - I use many tools from Google. I use Google for searching, Gmail for email and chat and now I’m starting to explore Google Docs & Spreadsheets

  6. MS Office - I can’t imagine my work without Word, Excel and PowerPoint

  7. Furl - I use Furl to manage and share my bookmarks. Like with Bloglines and Google Reader I’ve tried del.icio.us but returned to Furl. No particular reason for that, but I prefer Furl.

  8. Twango -  I use Twango for media sharing. The service is great: fast and very easy to use. They are now being acquired by Nokia.

  9. SnagIt - I use SnagIt to screen captures and basic pictures editing. Works perfectly well and fills all my needs.

  10. Copernic Desktop Search - Nowadays I have so many files in my computers that I need a tool like Copernic Desktop Search to find them. It’s a light and very fast application. I tried others but Copernic is my preferred.
