Karl's Top 10 Tools as at 5 August 2008

  1. Google: The starting point of web research. High quality and pertinent search results

  2. Wikipedia: Excellent, accessible and accurate. Another starting point for web research.

  3. Camtasia: The best screen cast software bar none. Simple to use and excellent features. Makes the creation of professional quality, engaging content a cinch.

  4. Adobe Flash: The best tool to create interactive content. Initial learning curve is steep but it is worth the effort to get to grips with.

  5. Google Docs: A realistic alternative to ‘traditional’ Office application suites. The ability to collaborate makes Google Docs a winner.

  6. Audacity: Does everything you need to record and edit audio. Easy to use, another winner!

  7. PowerPoint: Very easy to use but with enough features to allow the creation of more elaborate learning resources

  8. Wordle: A great, simple and fun to use web application. Changes the way you view passages of text, quite literally!!

  9. Twitter: A truly wonderful micro blogging tool. Fantastic for brainstorming and rapid sharing of thoughts, ideas, links etc

  10. Skype: Instant Messaging, VoIP and Video Conferencing in one simple to use package.
