Ramona is an ICT teacher at an international school near Lisbon, Portugal.  With technology changing so rapidly, she is a fan of open-source/freeware tools.  You can find her online at The Connected Classroom. 

Ramona's Top 10 Tools as at 8 August 2007

  1. Audacity - a tool that is free and easy to download and use to record students.

  2. Blogger - a free tool that allows for endless opportunities for students (and teachers alike) to express themselves and interact with a cyber-audience.

  3. Wikispaces - a free online tool available which can be used by groups to collaborate on projects.

  4. PhotoStory - a free Microsoft tool which makes slide presentations more animated and is easy to use. Just download it from the Microsoft site.

  5. YouTube / TeacherTube – a free video resource with loads of possibilities for use in the K-12 classroom. 

  6. Yahoo Groups / Google Groups  – a free service where groups of people who share common interests can interface.

  7. Skype - a free internet telephone company allowing participants to connect (computer to computer).

  8. PhotoBucket - a free online image hosting service.  But great for storing videos (including PowerPoint Presentations and PhotoStories) to upload on blogs and website.

  9. ProProfs - a free resource where teachers can easily create online quizzes for students to practice with 24/7.

  10. flickr toys - really cool free “toys” to help keep students motivated.
