TOP 10 TOOLS 2008
Robert Chapman

I currently work for Tennessee Tech at the Technology Institute. I work to stay on the leading edge of instructional design and technology and try to share that knowledge with colleagues and instructors. www.rschapman.com

Robert's Top 10 Tools as at 17 March 2008

  1. Jing: One of the best tools for quick screen grabs. I love how it automatically ftps the file to a web server and places the link on my clipboard to share.

  2. Mythtv: One of many open source Tivo like projects that makes video sharing in the university easy to use.

  3. uTorrent: Lightweight and easy to use torrent manager for file sharing and takes the load off of centrally managed servers for video.

  4. Wordpress: By far one of my favorite tools. Wonderful extensibility and easy to use blog.

  5. ustream.tv: Easy to use and feature complete tool for Internet broadcasting of video.

  6. Rightload: Similar to Jing but works with any files. Great for sharing any kind of files using a web server or NAS.

  7. Wink: Great tool for creating screen captures and demonstrations.

  8. Google Docs: We use it all of the time in our office and VLE. Makes shared project collaboration a breeze.

  9. Open Office: A wonderful office suite that has seen a lot of growth and improvement since I first started using it.

  10. TrueCrypt: Easy to use and great tool for keeping sensitive documents at the university encrypted.
