Robert's Top 10 Tools as at
17 March 2008
Jing: One of
the best tools for quick screen grabs. I love how it
automatically ftps the file to a web server and places
the link on my clipboard to share. Mythtv: One of many open source Tivo like projects
that makes video sharing in the university easy to use.
uTorrent: Lightweight and easy to use torrent
manager for file sharing and takes the load off of
centrally managed servers for video. Wordpress:
By far one of my favorite tools. Wonderful extensibility
and easy to use blog.
ustream.tv: Easy to use and feature complete tool
for Internet broadcasting of video.
Rightload: Similar to Jing but works with any files.
Great for sharing any kind of files using a web server
or NAS. Wink: Great
tool for creating screen captures and demonstrations.
Google Docs:
We use it all of the time in our office and VLE. Makes
shared project collaboration a breeze. Open Office:
A wonderful office suite that has seen a lot of growth
and improvement since I first started using it.
TrueCrypt: Easy to use and great tool for keeping
sensitive documents at the university encrypted. |
