TOP TOOLS
TOP 10 TOOLS 2007
Wendy Phillips

Wendy Phillips develops online training courses for the contact centres of BigPond, the internet business unit of Australia's largest telecommunications company, Telstra.

Wendy's Top 10 Tools as at 9 July 2007

  1. Dreamweaver: I've used this since version 1 and it only gets better. Once you have designed a CSS driven template, it's a breeze to manage your elearning content with integrated workflow between Fireworks and Flash.

  2. Flash: Once you get into a little Actionscript, flash is a very flexible tool for anything from animations to scenarios to learning checks.

  3. Fireworks: Has come a long way from its early days when vector and bitmap editing was quite separate and confusing. Now it's all seamless and it's certainly an ideal tool for web work

  4. Captivate: Excellent for system simulations and scenario interactions. Also great for animated activities if you don't have Flash, although it's heavy on file size.

  5. Articulate Quizmaker: Very flexible quiz tool. Although I have Articulate I don't use it that often. I do however use its Quizmaker and Engage tools and insert them into Dreamweaver pages.

  6. Articulate Engage: Nice animated interactions make it easy to create an information-rich item all in one small swf file for insertion in Dreamweaver, or any other tool that will import a swf.

  7. iStockphoto: iStockphoto, Microsoft online clipart gallery and Stock xpert: The first is an amazing resource of quality digital photos and illustrations which can be purchased for $1US - I use it all the time. The latter 2 are free to use and again, great quality photos available.

  8. PDF Online:  free conversion to pdf, the file is sent to you via email almost instantly

  9. Gadwin PrintScreen: free print screen utility makes it simple to take shots with a variety of output options.

  10. Bloglines Notifier: subscribe to your favorite blogs and this sits in the taskbar, ready to notify you when a blog has been updated. Easily categorise and manage blogs.
